About the Client
Edinburgh Zoo, owned by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), is a world-renowned center for wildlife conservation, education, and research. Home to over 1,000 animals, it welcomes thousands of visitors annually, fostering connections with nature and supporting global conservation efforts.
The zoo plays a key role in protecting endangered species and inspiring future generations.
With over 600,000 visitors annually, Edinburgh Zoo recognized the need to address dust issues in the giraffe enclosure, where the sand substrate generated significant dust during maintenance activities. This posed health concerns for both staff and visitors.
Implementing specialized dust control solutions has markedly improved air quality. Dust levels, previously exceeding acceptable limits, are now well within safe parameters. The air is visibly clearer, with noticeable improvements in taste and smell.
This initiative is unique, as few have undertaken air quality enhancements in animal enclosures for the benefit of both keepers and animals. Ongoing maintenance ensures a healthier environment for all.

Enhancing Environments
When maintaining spaces dedicated to wildlife care, unique challenges require innovative solutions—like controlling harmful dust in sensitive habitats. Edinburgh Zoo partnered with Dust Arrest to tackle the dust issues in the giraffe enclosure, where the sand substrate created risks for staff, visitors, and animals alike.
Thanks to our advanced dust management solutions, air quality has dramatically improved. Dust levels are now within safe limits, creating a cleaner, healthier environment that benefits everyone. Thousands of visitors, along with the dedicated staff and animals, are now protected from the harmful effects of airborne particles.
This pioneering project highlights our ability to address complex challenges and ensure ongoing maintenance for the well-being of all.
